The Kims to China – Deputation Journey

Fairhaven’s newest missionary family – Samuel and Hana Kim along with their two boys, Sammy (4) and John (2) – started full-time deputation to China in May. They plan to work under a veteran missionary in Beijing for two years while attending language school and then move to Yanbian, China – a border city of North Korea, which is home to 1.2 million Chinese-Koreans.

This spring, the Kim family took a six-week trip to Korea and China. They had the unique opportunity of ministering and sharing their burden for China in nine Baptist churches in South Korea. The highlight of the trip was seeing Samuel’s 82-year-old grandmother get saved! In Beijing, they saw the practical side of living in China. God used this trip to confirm the calling and the burden for China in the hearts of both Samuel and Hana.

The Kims have partnered with Fundamental Baptist World-Wide Mission (FBWWM) and attended FBWWM’s Annual Institute of Missions in June. Currently they have 20 meetings scheduled; please pray with them as they work to fill their deputation schedule. They believe that God already has the churches hand-picked that will assist them and help both financially and in prayer. They are working diligently to find those churches. Praise God – they already have over 10% of their support raised. Their goal is to be on the field by the end of 2016.

The Kim family’s information and video presentation are on a secured webpage on the Fairhaven Baptist Church website. We have chosen not to openly distribute copies or post videos online for their safety as they are reaching a Communist country. For inquiries regarding meetings, please contact them by phone at 219-628-1088 or by email at KimsToChina@gmail.com – a link to the secured website and a password will be provided for pastors.

A few families from our Spanish ministry took a three-day trip to the National Museum of the USAF near Dayton, Ohio.  This ministry is led by Clint Schreiber.

The Spanish ministry is an integral part of our church.  Our Spanish speaking members and guests attend the English services while listening through a translator.  This enables each person to maintain direct connection with our regular activities, ministries, and services.

A good group of visitors attended Teen Friend Day on Sunday, with teens filling the majority of the main floor.  Pastor Parrish preached a pointed sermon from the Bible.  The teens were challenged to examine their life in light of eternity.  We rejoice in each decision made for Christ as a result.

Mongolia Update

Hello,

We have had a good summer here since we got back.  Our camps in the country went well, and we have had some new kids that came to our church for the first time this summer and continue to come to church on Sunday.  We baptized two kids last Friday in the river.

Now our work in preparing for our special services later this month begins.  All the people of the church has an area to knock on doors and invite people to church in.  We are going to concentrate on people that have been to church, or that we have witnessed to in the past.  We have all been praying for God to lay people on out hearts, and writing down the names of those whom God has impressed on us and praying for them.  We will try to get them to church and try to follow up on them personally to try to confront them with their need for the Gospel.  We will appreciate your prayers for our efforts this fall.

We would also appreciate your prayers for a new place to meet, since we must get out of our present building.  We have several options, but due to red tape and other factors, must do some research before making a decision.

Thank you for your prayers.

Update from Truitts

Greetings in Jesus' Name from Chuck and Linda Truitt,

1 Timothy 1:12 "And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;"

Presently we are in Largo, Florida where there is a great church and pastor nearby, and we are basically awaiting our next ministry, while getting our medical situation squared away; my medical is being mostly handled by the VA, but Linda has issues that are finally being addressed as well.

I am definitely having some cancer removed from my right ear, as well as others that are being treated separately. The doctor said to expect about 5 hours on my ear; really? I told him that I'll not be happy if I end up looking like Spock! I wasn't very assured by his look after that. Oh well, it is what it is! I have had three concussion that are cumulatively affecting me; they call it TBI on my VA record.

Additionally, Agent Orange exposure has shown up in at least two different aspects. Three other operations are tentatively planned after I get my A1C below 8.0. My last two checks were 8.1 and 8.4. My left shoulder operation is a definite if I decide to go through with it, and both knees are as well, especially my left one. I've got two canes, but I prefer hanging onto a shopping cart when possible. Falling over is an option, but I really hate that one, especially when it involves falling next to, or off the pulpit. Enough of that, "just because I carry a cane doesn't mean that I'm elderly!"

This place where we are located, Four Seasons Estates, has about 350 homes with folks that are 55 and up, and just after coming here they asked me to be their Chaplain, which I accepted. About a week later I said, "If I'm to be the chaplain here, how about letting me hold Sunday services in the club house/meeting center? About 2/3 of the people are Snowbirds from places like Canada, Scotland, England, and northern states, so about the time I got things rolling most of the folks had left for other parts of the world. Never the less I had and 82 year old man trust in Christ, as well as a lady, Sharon, about my age (66) get saved. I led her to the Lord while Linda and I visited her at her home.

Please keep us in your prayers for our medical, and health, as well as our ministry. Pray for Kenny Wells, a 90 year old who lives down the street. Kenny is a Marine who was wounded and won a Bronze Star at the Battle of Sugarloaf on Okinawa in May 1945. I'm sure looking to seem him trust in Christ.

We are available for meetings for the next several months - please contact us! Once again I want to thank you all. And, always remember to thank God for everything - Colossians 1:12-14.

In Christ's Service,

Chuck and Linda Truitt

Dr. and Mrs. Jeff Voegtlin have enjoyed working with the singles' group at FBC.  This group takes part in numerous activities and service opportunities throughout the year.  Recently they attended a retreat hosted by Bible Baptist Church of Grand Forks, North Dakota.  It was a  three-day event with lots of good preaching and enjoyable fellowship.  Among the speakers was a Fairhaven Baptist College alumni, Pastor Dave Mallinak.

On Labor Day, the group went on a bike ride along Lake Michigan in Chicago.  They started at Pastor Courtney Lewis' church in Hyde Park and then biked to Navy Pier and back.  They ended the evening with dessert and fellowship at Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Opening Week and Stewardship Banquet

The 39th year of Fairhaven Baptist College began last week.  We praise the Lord for an increased enrollment, and in particular an increase of ten male dormitory students compared to last fall.  Our country needs preachers, and our prayers for these men were answered.

In addition to various opening week activities, a guest preacher speaks in the first several chapel services.  This year's speaker was Larry Williams, a 1980 graduate of Fairhaven Baptist College and pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Seneca, Pennsylvania.  Pastor Williams also spoke at our annual Stewardship Banquet.
